At Mommie Helen’s, our pies don’t have that processed grocery store taste because they’re all made one at a time, by hand, using secret recipes Mommie Helen passed down to my sisters and me. We started this website because in the past few years our tiny bakery has developed a reputation that’s brought everyone from Oprah to NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal to our door! Good food travels fast, I guess. And not just Oprah and Shaq… Celebrities and sports stars like actress Angela Bassett…rap artists Master P, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre…actor Tom Arnold…supermodel Kathy Ireland…NFL legend Marcus Allen…NBA Hall of Famer James Worthy…all get their fix for homemade cooking from Mommie Helen’s oven. |

We fire up Mommie Helen’s ovens every morning at 4:00 a.m. and bake all day, just so we can meet demand (and let me tell you, when Shaq alone orders 30 sweet potato pies at a clip, it ain’t easy). Every pie, cobbler and cake at Mommie Helen’s is made from scratch. We don’t cheat you with fillers and preservatives. Heck, we wouldn’t even know how to add preservatives if we wanted to. We leave that to the big corporate bakers. Everything that comes out of our oven is made according to my mother’s 60 year-old secret family recipes. Until now, we’ve only sold our pies, cobblers and cakes directly from our little shop. Heck, people have even come from other states with ice coolers to load up on our pies. |

For years “Mommie” Helen Williams blessed her family and her community with her baking secrets she brought with her to California from Texarkana, Texas.
This baking tradition is carried on in Helen’s daughter Dorothy Pryor Rose who felt a calling to serve her community through a neighborhood bakery, using her mother’s 60-year-old secret family recipes…and Mommie Helen’s Bakery was born.
Today, the goodness baked at Mommie Helen’s Bakery is enjoyed across the country and as far away as China, Japan, France, England, Senegal and Brazil…with every pie still leaving the oven here in Colton, California.
